Meeting Minutes - District 24 Spring Business Meeting - May 3, 2008

Holiday Inn Express, Beatrice, Nebraska

The meeting was called to order by District Governor, Chris Czerwinski. Chris welcomed all and introduced those seated at the head table; Ruth Negus, District Secretary; Leo Allen and Pat Fledman, Parliamentarians.

Credential Report by Flo Westermeier: 34 clubs represented 66 votes; 18 of the 28 Executive Committee members; 84 total votes were verified; Majority vote requires 43; 2/3 vote requires 56. We have a quorum.

Housekeeping:
DG Chris Czerwinski explained that Unanimous Consent will be declared if there are no stated objections from the floor. Membership participating in the meeting will state their Name, Club and Number (if known).

Appointments:
Tellers: Sheila Hoffert, Melinda Hagg, and Floy Westermeier.
Timers: Colleen Bozart
Agenda was adopted without objection.

Minutes:
Rick Jensen moved to suspend the reading of the minutes of the last District Meeting, and post them on the District 24 website. Second by Randy Prier. Motion carried.

Financial Reports:
Presented by Kendra Beckstead, District 24 Treasurer.
Kendra thanked the Audit committee for their diligence.

  1. Mid Year Audit Report (2007) - Budgeted for mid-year funds available of $21,495.29 with actual amount available on 12/31/07 of $26,528.17 (ahead a difference of $5,032.88).
  2. Current Balance / Bank Status - Current book balance is $5,821.64 as of 4/30/08 and the current District Reserve's Balance is $25,291.93 as of 3/31/08. Questions in regards to expense reports, reimbursements or other financial information can be directed to Chris or Kendra.
  3. Special Orders: Confirmation of appointments to Office - no action required

    District Governor Candidates presented their two-minute speeches followed by secret ballot election.

    During the counting of the ballots, Division Governors presented their reports.

    • Division A - Robert Puhalla: lost 2 clubs; strong leadership and membership in remaining clubs
    • Division C - Gary Martin: Two clubs (Good Neighbor and Innovators) have 8/10 and 9/10 points toward Distinguished club; Fairview hosted Speech Craft and added 3 new members; Sunrise TM Club celebrated 50 Year Anniversary event; Saddly, Ameritas Club and TownPlus clubs have been lost; Captial City TM club is reviving; Thanks to Beatrice for hosting the District 24 Conference Meeting; Thanked and recognized Area Governors.
    • Division D - Rick Jensen: Several clubs have almost doubled in size with others recruiting at least 8 or more new members; Spring Contests were well organized; Over half of the clubs are at least Distinguished or better with more expected to achieve additional points by year end; Area governors were acknowledged and thanked; Working to keep Lincoln Financial viable; Working to charter Kirkhan Mchael & Associates and AG Processing as a joint community club; The answer to reviving struggling clubs is recruiting new members and then mentoring those new people.
    • Division E - George Volz for Ellen Hankes: Division E represents Excellence; Six clubs have reached Distinguished status or better; Seven of the 22 clubs have 20 or more members; new members are critical to the success of Division E.
    Results of Elections
    District Governor: Pat Hannan was elected (63; 20).

    District Governor - Chris Czerwinski: Thanked the membership for support and all the officers for their hard work;

    Lt. Governor Education & Training - Connie Klubunde:
    Success is measured by the designations achieved
    " CCs - Goal: 87; Achieved: 81; 93% complete
    " ACs - Goal: 24; Achieved: 37: 154% complete
    " CL, AL, DTM - Goal: 20; Achieved: 44; 220% complete
    13 Triple Crowns were achieved and members recognized;
    Trainings were well attended and clubs received awards for having officers attend training in both the first and second rounds of training; Next round of TLI's will begin in July and planning is already underway. Future Conference hosing responsibility has been outlined through Spring of 2011.

    LT Governor Marketing: Elden Plettner
    Lost 5 clubs; Gained 320 new members as of 3/31/08; May and June membership drives are underway, still needing 431 to meet the annual goal; 9 new clubs are in the development stages with money and locations being important; Omaha Advanced Club still needs 6 more members; Strictly Speaking Club in Lincoln needs more members, as well. "ASK! ASK! ASK!"

    Public Relations Officer - Pat Hannan
    Visitor's Week contest was held in March 2008; Winner for most visitors is OPPD Club with 15 visitors; Winner for the drawing from the participating clubs is Yakkety Yakkers, who had 7 visitors; Shelftalkers had 5 visitors, resulting in 3 new members;!
    Double Dozen has been published monthly; website updated regularly; Sent out Proxy and Conference Announcements to the club Presidents and VP Education; Email and the website have been effectively used for communication with membership and officers; The Educational Fund quilt was displayed at all Division Contests and at most Area Contests and other TLI events.

    New Business: Announcement regarding Region IV Conference in Rapid City, SD, June 26-28, 2008;

    Early registration before June 1, of $165, after 6/1: $175. Hotel will also have a reduced rate of$109 before 6/1. Call the Rushmore Hotel directly. The Book Store will be open until 30 minutes after the International Contest. Briefing for the International Speech Contest will be at 3:15.
