Better Speaker Series

As a part of becoming a better speaker and a mentor to other club members, Toastmasters offers some opportunities to share some knowledge and skills through these pre-formatted modules. Members who wish to achieve some of the more advanced levels in Toastmasters will be required to present materials from the Better Speaker Series.

  1. Selecting Your Topic; three overheads; 10-15 minutes presentation time. This Program identifies several different approaches for choosing a subject that will suit the audience, occasion, and the abilities of the speaker.
  2. Take the Terror Out of a Talk; three overheads; 10-15 minutes presentation time. This Program recognizes that many members join Toastmasters to control their speech anxiety. The Program helps participants recognize nervousness and offers techniques for managing it.
  3. Creating an Introduction; three overheads; 10-15 minutes presentation time. This Program focuses on the need for effective speech introductions and how to go about creating them.
  4. Beginning Your Speech; three overheads; 10-15 minutes presentation time. This Program emphasizes how a Speaker's opening words are critical, because the audience is won or lost in the first few sentences of a speech.
  5. Organizing Your Speech; three overheads; 10-15 minutes presentation time. This Program offers several strategies for planning an effective presentation.
  6. Concluding Your Speech; three overheads; 10-15 minutes presentation time. This Program helps members to learn effective ways to end a speech. The Program identifies the criteria that every speech ending should fulfill and offers methods for ending a speech.
  7. Preparation and Practice; three overheads; 10-15 minutes presentation time. This Program offers several strategies for planning an effective presentation.
  8. Know Your Audience; three overheads; 10-15 minutes presentation time. This Program addresses the importance of researching and understanding the people who will be listening to your speech so that you might best serve their needs - as well as your own.
  9. Impromptu Speaking; three overheads; 10-15 minutes presentation time. This Program addresses those all-too-frequent occasions when you are expected to speak without preparation. [It is suggested that this presentation be made at the beginning of the Club Meeting, then proceed with the Table Topics sessions; in this way your Club members will have an opportunity to practice what they have just heard.
